Develop and manage Medline’s innovation pipeline, delivering a critical component that fuels the organization’s long-term growth goals. Serve as the face of Medline to external innovation partnerships, responsible for developing, building, and maintaining relationships with universities, start-ups, and customer innovation labs. Responsible for analyzing and prioritizing opportunities, leading the Innovation Review Committee, and facilitating internal partnerships with each business unit to ensure successful commercialization of key innovation initiatives.
CORE JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Represent Medline through existing customer relationships and forming new ones through external channels, including but not limited to, event participation, product exhibition, industry groups and development of ongoing relationships with the different groups and licensing offices at healthcare institutions and universities.
Source new technologies by examining the competitive landscape looking for opportunities and identifying likely scenarios of competitive activity. Travel to and meet with existing and potential strategic partners for new ideas and products.
Identify new business opportunities through primary and secondary market research and through engagement with Sales, Marketing, Product Divisions and Executive Leadership. Oversee the enterprise-wide process designed to efficiently assist divisions in bringing in new products and evaluation of commercial viability.
- Broker development/collaboration between external institutions and internal Product Divisions and take the lead where appropriate in vetting new product ideas.
Drive the development of marketing framework that promotes Medline as a potential strategic partner, particularly to technology transfer and similar institutions.
Guide the business process in determining New Product Development (NPD) investments designed to achieve business objectives, optimize the value of the overall portfolio, allocate the most profitable use of resources and ensure protection of company interests.
Support the Innovation review Committee evaluation process as necessary (execution of NDA, additional information gathering, organize and facilitate communication). Work with Divisions, as appropriate, after committee decision to assist in implementing New Product Development and Launch.
- Support the development of a framework and assessment methodology for evaluating new innovation areas. Review and develop materials related to market research, forecast, and pricing for the review committee.
Identify resources (including external partners) and capabilities needed to enable execution of the innovation work stream. Determine product lifecycle implications and make decisions to drive market competitiveness and to achieve sustainable economic success. Identify appropriate follow-up post Product Division review.
Perform market intelligence research to provide for patent analysis and other competitive intelligence research and reporting.
