Job Description

Position Summary

Accountant Sr

Purpose

To serve as a resource for the accounting, compliance and administrative duties required to issue, record and collect student tuition and loans related to all student programs.

Primary Functions

  • Responsible for maintaining the finances of the Institutionally managed Federal Loan Programs, Institutional student loan programs and scholarships. This includes coordinating the preparation of promissory notes before the loan is disbursed, disbursement of loan and scholarship funds and collection of loan payments after graduation. Collection is performed in conjunction with a billing agency and may involve interaction with collection agencies and attorneys.
  • Responsible for advising students of their responsibilities and options for consolidating, deferring or forbearing Federal and institutional loans. Perform exit interviews for graduating and withdrawing students. Responsible for ensuring MCW compliance with Federal lending agency requirements.
  • Responsible for external reporting on the federal loan programs.
  • Assist with the assessment and collection of student tuition. Interact with the various schools to determine tuition assessments and interact with Financial Aid to process student loan payments from lending agencies. Work directly with students to collect tuition and fee balances.
  • Prepare journal entries as requested and as needed to resolve processing problems or errors in student tuition account matters.
  • Perform other student activities, as assigned
  • All work will be performed in an independent manner and in compliance with departmental quality standards for timeliness, accuracy, presentation format and the creation or maintenance of related policies and procedures.


Knowledge – Skills – Abilities

  • Experience and working knowledge of student loan regulations, student information systems and student billing operations.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to listen critically and interact with individuals at all levels both within and outside the organization.
  • Advanced technology skills, including Excel, Word, automated accounting software, business intelligence cubes and related report writing tools is required.
  • Strong critical thinking, problem-solving and analytical skills and the ability to work independently to assess available information, draw conclusions and understandings, and present such conclusions effectively to other parties.
  • Strong organization skills and the ability to prioritize and stay focused on assigned priorities, work independently to meet internal and external deadlines and produce a consistently high-quality product.
  • Demonstrated ability to contribute in a team environment and provide customer service in a decentralized organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to show initiative, exercise judgment and adapt to change.
