Director, Consumables, Product Development At Me to We

Job Description

WE Charity was among the first organizations in Canada to turn philanthropy on its head by creating a legally distinct social enterprise, ME to WE. Through the social enterprise, 50% of the profits support WE Charity, while the rest is reinvested in the social enterprise.

ME to WE seeks a strong leader to act as Director of Consumables, Product Development and join the ME to WE Retail 360 team. Consumables products are positioned as a ‘Big Bet’ for the organization and while this is a new category of products, it will sustain the fastest growth and will represent an important part of the ME to We product revenue.

The Director of Consumables will be accountable for developing the strategy, managing product portfolio and development of our consumable product line. This includes our chocolate and coffee portfolio, but also building an innovation plan to expand the line into new and innovative product categories that adhere to the organization mission and vision, tying back to the traditions and agricultural practices of the communities we work with while being innovative and on trend for the markets we sell in.

The individual must be passionate and committed to the core beliefs of the organization – the WE.org Philosophy. The incumbent will report to the Head of Product Development and Supply Chain. The position is based out of ME to WE Toronto office.

Responsibilities:
  • Works with the leaders of the Retail 360 team and other team members, including our country teams, to create an enduring vision and strategy for all consumable products
  • Develops a 3-year product roadmap to strengthen the big bet product categories and plan innovation based on category role, category performance, customer and product trends and competitive landscape
  • Manage product development of consumables, from concept idea to ready-to-launch
  • Lead cross-functional teams that support the development, marketing and launch of the product (sales, partnerships, marketing, supply-chain, country teams)
  • Liaise with our country teams for production
  • Manage Consumable PD calendar
  • Develop Consumable Line plans
  • Manage COGs and profitability
  • Collaborate closely with the Director of PD on briefs for packaging and merchandising needs
  • Manages compliance and regulatory requirements for consumable products
  • Manages vendor relationships locally and oversees collaboration with vendors abroad
  • Set and continually manages expectations with internal and external stakeholders
  • Identify process and efficiency improvements
  • Monitors and reports on progress, milestones and priorities to the leadership team and crossfunctionally
What you bring:
  • Possess a degree/qualification in Marketing, Business Administration or a related field
  • Minimum 5-7 years of experience in category/portfolio management, buying and/or innovation in retail or wholesale consumable products
  • Proven experience managing innovation and product portfolio
  • Strong understanding of and experience in retail sales and consumer products;  Strong oral communication and presentation skills
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Demonstrates excellence in the area of teamwork and collaboration
  • Enjoys working in a demanding, fast paced work environment and flexible with work hours
  • Highly self – motivated and independent, a strategic thinker
  • Able to perform well and problem solve in high stress, dynamic and changing situations
  • Detail oriented with strong attention to effective task completion
