Global Product Manager At Magna Mechatronics & Mirrors

Location: Newmarket, Ontario

Job Description

This position is for Magna Mechatronics / Magna Mirrors / Magna Lighting Group Office.

Job Introduction

The Global Product Manager is responsible for the development and implementation of a global product strategy for a given commodity through collaboration with regional divisions, global sales and engineering teams. This individual is guided by generally defined goals and objectives that have tangible, measurable outcomes and works under the broad supervision of the Director, Global Product Management.

Major Responsibilities
  • Develop, implement and maintain the global strategy for a defined commodity or commodities
  • Coordination of global quotations for defined commodities
  • Recommendation for pricing strategies
  • Work with cross-functional organization to establish and facilitate maintenance of competitor assessments (both business and technical) and to take appropriate actions to penetrate into these market segments
  • Work with cross-functional organization to assess and identify market trends and their impact on the defined strategy
  • Maintain the market share analysis for the commodity including the five year rolling forecast
  • Define the Statement of Work to support the product and platform strategies and obtain organizational buy-in
  • Work with the appropriate COE teams to ensure technical criteria, timing and cost allocation is achieved according to the Statement of Work objectives
  • Participates in the annual business /budget review and completes departmental budget, monitoring to ensure budget to achieved
  • Assist the COE lead in developing resource allocation plans to support the global product and platform strategies
  • Delivers successful business outcomes ensuring all projects and programs are delivered on time, and within the scope and budget
  • Involvement in global, and sometimes regional, customer negotiations
  • Prioritize issues and make decisions within the guidelines of the defined business processes
  • Keeps the Senior/Executive Management Teams and the Product Management community informed on status, issues and risks associated with the selected projects and programs
  • Supports the ongoing development of Product Management discipline and professionalism as viewed internally and externally
  • Serves as the authority on Project Management methods and practices and ensures their integration with other corporate governing processes (such as Team Center EC and PEP)
  • Provide updates on all Global Products (either directly or through divisional Program Managers)
  • Ensure product initiation through to implementation for all Global Products ensuring that business outcomes and values are met
  • Oversee the management of project and product budgets, schedules, scope and issues including financial management and risk management
  • Monitor and report on global projects, providing status and performance against specified metrics to the Senior Leadership Team
  • Supports tactical business development for global programs
  • Promotes the Program and Project Management value proposition, through information-sharing and training sessions
  • Ensure metrics are in place to measure GPM project effectiveness (NOC Closure, Engineering Budget Adherence, Global Program Tooling Allocation, etc.)
  • Create, update and manage TCAS processes for global change management
  • Other duties as required
Knowledge and Education
  • A Post Secondary Degree or Diploma in a related field
  • Minimum of 5 years related experience

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, emphasizing interpersonal, group presentation skills

Work Environment
  • The majority of the job is performed in a standard office environment with minimal risk or harmful elements
  • Utilizing computer and/or telephone excessively
  • Job requires dealing with confidential and sensitive information and situations
  • Job requires handling of stressful situations on occasion.
  • Valid Driver’s License required
  • Must have or be able to attain/maintain a current Passport
  • Travel (both foreign and domestic)
