VP, Marketing & Publicity, Henry Holt and Company At Macmillan Publishers

Location: New York, New York

Job Description

Henry Holt & Co. publishes a wide array of authors (from New York Times bestsellers to Pulitzer Prize winners to celebrities) and is looking for a VP to oversee the marketing and publicity departments. This position will oversee a variety of marketing and publicity campaigns (serious non-fiction, literary fiction, upmarket commercial fiction, narrative non-fiction, etc.) and aid in developing the growth strategy for all social media platforms. The ideal candidate will have experience with bestseller campaigns, have strong contacts in the marketing and media fields, and the ability to formulate and execute effective media campaigns.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Reports directly to the Publisher, conceiving world-class marketing campaigns that realize the agreed upon marketing/sales vision for each unique author/title.
  • Analyze, strategize and implement title-specific publicity plans.
  • Oversee and mentor the marketing and publicity team members (12 in total), creating a climate that is motivating and retaining a diverse group of top-quality employees.
  • Manage and maximize all financial resources dedicated to each campaign.
  • Continue to develop, cultivate, and maintain substantial relationships with broadcasts, print and media contacts.
  • Participate in and contribute PR and Marketing perspectives to key internal meetings including senior staff meetings, acquisition meetings, etc.

Required Skills / Knowledge:

  • An interest and ability to stay on top of the current marketing and publicity environments and competitive strategies, offering innovative ideas for our growth and development.
  • Established network of broadcast, print and digital contacts
  • Strong connections within the marketing and media fields
  • The ability to take ownership of multiple projects and make timely, results-driven and goal-focused decisions
  • The ability to develop, manage and communicate innovative and resourceful multi-platform marketing campaigns.
  • The ability to plan and manage annual budgets
  • Superb verbal and written communication skills
  • Must be enthusiastic, creative, flexible, and collaborative

Experience Needed:

  • 10+ years of combined marketing and publicity experience in book publishing or a similar field
  • Strong management skills with experience motivating and driving success within a team
  • Experience creating and executing effective media campaigns and strategies with proven success.
  • Experience with bestseller campaigns

Educational Background Required:

  • College degree
