Publicity Assistant, Farrar, Straus and Giroux At Macmillan Publishers

Location: New York, New York

Job Description

The Publicity Assistant position will provide day-to-day support for the Director and Associate Director of Publicity. Responsibilities consist of both administrative duties and project work. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional organizational skills, knowledge of contemporary literary and media landscapes, excellent communication skills, and the ability to prioritize effectively.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Assist 2 senior members of the publicity department
  • Draft press releases and pitch materials for new books
  • Assist with media campaigns for a wide range of new fiction, nonfiction, and poetry titles
  • Research media and review outlets, media and review contacts, and event venues
  • Assist in coordinating author readings, tours, and travel schedules
  • Communicate comfortably and professionally with a variety of authors
  • Facilitate advance copy and finished book mailings and outreach to book critics, TV and radio producers, review editors, and bloggers
  • Administrative duties for the publicity department, including maintenance of media database and distribution of seasonal catalogs and reviewer checklists

Required Skills / Knowledge:

  • Ability to multi-task while working in a fast paced environment
  • Exceptional organizational skills
  • Knowledge of contemporary literary and media landscapes
  • Ability to prioritize, meet deadlines and work independently
  • Superior writing and communication skills
  • Ability and willingness to work with social media, Excel and various media database

Experience:

  • Entry level, but prior experience in publishing or media is preferred

Educational Background Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in a relevant subject area
