The Client Insights team at Mackenzie Investments is accepting applications for the position of Data Scientist. Reporting to the Client Insights Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for researching, designing, leading, and implementing the foundation of our predictive models.

Responsibilities include:

  • Leading the creation and formulation of mathematical models using advanced analytical methods in descriptive, predictive, and prescriptive modeling.
  • Conduct extensive descriptive analytics on available data by employing machine learning and statistical modelling techniques to solve real business problems.
  • Compiling complex data sets from a variety of sources and formats.
  • Developing a data collection framework, identifying key descriptive and diagnostic measures that support satellite level KPIs.
  • Researching, learning, and brainstorming new tools, techniques, and approaches to help minimize the risk of experimenting with new algorithms.
  • Continually think of new ways in which data-based insights can help support business processes and improve the client experience.
  • Analyzing structured and unstructured data and organize findings to translate into actionable insights using original or innovative techniques.
  • Investigating problems where they arise and identifying and exploring new techniques to find solutions through derived insights from business data.
  • Building interactive dashboards intuitive enough for business user but flexible enough to serve multiple needs.
  • Being an expert when it comes to data collection, data cleaning, and data utilization and providing guidance to our partners within the service division.
  • Identifying method that allow for continuous and automated statistical testing to enhance the predictability of deployed models.
  • Translate business objectives and strategy into high quality analytical and machine learning-based solutions that drive real business outcomes
  • Summarizing and presenting conclusions in a professional, clean, and concise manner that can be easily understood by all audiences.
  • Supporting the Service Innovation team in the creation and understanding of client personas, customer journey maps, and stakeholder maps through analytics and insights
  • Synthesizing lessons learned by building predictive models to enhance the understanding of how to optimize operations and the client experience
  • Developing customer experience dashboards and stories that make organizational performance easy to understand for employees
  • Evaluating data integrity to ensure measurement systems are robust, repeatable, and reproducible
  • Developing measures to articulate the ROI of client experience
  • Make recommendations and implement improvements to day-to-day data collection, management, integrity, reporting and analysis
  • Overseeing the day to day collection, interpretation and analysis of client and business data across all segments

The following qualifications will assist the successful candidate in carrying out these responsibilities:

Technical:

  • Highly proficient with R (or Python) and SQL.
  • Experience with experimental design and inferential statistics. (Hypothesis testing: tests for significance, data distributions, Standard deviations and variances, etc.)
  • Proficient with business intelligence software such as Tableau.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office, especially Access, Excel, Visio, and VBA.
  • VB.net and C# knowledge is considered an asset.

Skills:

  • Bachelor or Masters degree or equivalent with emphasis in computer science, statistics, or mathematics.
  • At least 2 years experience in data mining, machine learning, and statistical modeling
  • Solid understanding of the underlying statistical theory and predictive modeling lifecycle
  • Demonstrated experience in constructing, validating, and maintaining descriptive, predictive, and prescriptive models
  • Proven track record in developing analytical solutions to business problems
  • Capability to architect highly scalable distributed systems, using different open source tools
  • Demonstrated experience in deriving and communicating insights and recommendations from data
  • Ability to synthesize data into succinct, concise, and logical summaries and reports
  • Excel at critical thinking – conceptualizing, analyzing, synthesizing, and evaluating
  • Self-motivated with an entrepreneurial mindset
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
