Role Summary:
The Protection & Control Senior Service Application Engineer will be responsible for designing, programming, testing and commissioning protection and control related applications for customers outsourcing their power system design and testing work.
Essential Responsibilities:
As the Protection & Control Senior Service Application Engineer you will:
- Analyze customer applications and design protection and control schemes to fulfill user specifications and requirements
- Perform engineering studies and analyses such as short circuit studies, protective device coordination, load flow, motor starting, etc.
- Design control logic solutions to meet customer requests that may include complex control schemes such as Transfer schemes and Auto-restoration schemes
- Fabricate relay setting files to include programming of Protection and Control Elements, Control Logic and Communications settings
- Test customized Protection and Control solutions both in house and at customer installations
- Provide field support up to and including commissioning of new applications
- Analyze and troubleshoot field cases involving GE Multilin Protection and Control products
Qualifications/Requirements:
- University Degree in Electrical Engineering
- Minimum 10 years of experience specifically in Protection and Control
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:
- May require travel up to 20 - 40% of the time depending on projects assigned
Desired Characteristics:
- May require travel up to 20 - 40% of the time depending on projects assigned
- Experience in turn-key Protection and Control projects
- Demonstrated record in developing protection and control
- Working knowledge of major test sets and short-circuit / setting coordination software
- Working knowledge of RTDS, ASPEN, ETAP, SKM and MATLAB
- Familiarity with standard work and documentation procedures of electrical utilities
- Interdisciplinary experience including metering, communications, substation automation and integration
- Ability to present training courses and write technical papers
- Experience in programming the GE Multilin family of relays, specifically the UR and MICOM Family
- Experience in designing power system control schemes (Transfer Schemes, Auto-restoration Schemes)

Excellent understanding of theoretical bases for all major protection principles including Distance, Line Differential, Transformer Differential, Bus, Feeder, Generator and Large Motor protections.
