Senior Leader of People & Culture Communications, Global Product Development
The Position
Genentech’s Global Product Development (PD) organization is responsible for all late-stage development of medicines to treat patients with serious and life-threatening medical conditions.
We are eager to find an experienced internal communications professional who is passionate about employee communications to join our team in South San Francisco. The right individual will be able to strategize, counsel and synthesize one minute and execute the next. He or she must be dedicated to supporting our executives’ commitment to communicating authentically, transparently and without corporate speak and jargon. It’s an intense, fast-paced and influential role within a fun, experienced and high-energy team.
Key Responsibilities:
As a member of the PD Communications leadership team, you will lead the strategic development of an overarching communications strategy that strengthens our employees’ belief in and commitment to our unique culture and company values. Working as a key advisor to senior leaders of the PD leadership team, you will develop and execute communication strategies that support PD’s HR and Learning & Development initiatives and drive understanding and engagement among PD’s 5,000 employees working around the world.
The Senior Leader of People & Culture Communications will manage one person in South San Francisco and work closely to set the strategy and align activities with fellow members of the PD Communications team at PD’s five main global sites, as well as with colleagues in Group Communications (Basel), Corporate Relations (SSF), the two Research and Early Development groups (gRED & pRED), and others.
Responsibilities:

Serve as a trusted communications partner to the Global Head of PD Human Resources and to the Head of one of PD’s global functions

Set strategy, develop and implement Human Resources- and Learning & Development-related communications strategies and programs to address key People & Culture topics/issues

Create a cohesive, integrated communications program and editorial calendar to support understanding and adoption of PD’s desired culture, including its mission, values and organizational behaviors

In collaboration with the Learning & Development organization, support content development and execution of annual PD senior leaders conference

Drive a strategic plan for PD’s three global town hall meetings each year, introduce new creative concepts to improve the employee experience

Provide strategic oversight to site-specific communications at PD’s five primary locations

Identify story ideas and create original written and digital content for internal channels that increases knowledge and understanding of the PD organization and drives engagement

Manage and enhance PD’s marquee employee recognition program, the Break Through Awards

Plan and execute leadership visibility activities that create connections and drive engagement, including the creation of executive emails, videos, talking points and blogs

Support execution of PD’s annual report

Work with and manage external consultants and agencies to ensure timely delivery of projects

Collaborate with peers and colleagues across Roche to ensure coordinated and consistent communications
Qualifications:

A Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications or English is preferred or 10+ years equivalent experience

12+ years of employee communications experience with a strong focus on people and culture, ideally in a global organization

Experience in the healthcare, pharmaceutical/biotech industry and/or medical or science communications highly desirable

Demonstrated ability to communicate complex topics and concepts to audiences of varying knowledge levels

Self-starter comfortable working in a fast-paced, matrix environment

Outstanding verbal and written communication skills with deep knowledge of English grammar and AP style

Deep understanding of and appreciation for regional and cultural norms and how they influence communications among diverse audiences

Strong interpersonal and influencing skills, and the ability to effectively communicate with employees at all levels of the company
