Company Overview:
For 116 years, GBC has been considered the nation's largest buyer and wholesaler of fine jewelry surpluses and closeouts with distribution throughout the United States and beyond. At the same time, it maintains a small company atmosphere with a close-knit team of product, sales, and operations professionals experiencing high productivity and a low employee turnover rate.
Position Scope/Responsibilities:
Overall responsibility is generating sales. Functions include: making appointments and visiting with existing accounts, presenting merchandise, developing and maintaining customer relations, and establishing new accounts.
GBC's fine jewelry offerings are ever-changing and its entire format is value oriented, with prices being consistently below market. For this reason, every day brings with it new items, new challenges and new opportunities for customers to take advantage of GBC's "here today, gone tomorrow" urgency. There are no orders or re-orders, and all sales are generated on a "delivery" basis. Product is carried to the customers who select and take delivery during the sales call. Travel throughout the assigned territory is considerable with regular trips to the Boston office and at least one tradeshow per year.
Nationwide, sales are generally executed by GBC's team of independent contractors who manage specific geographic territories as Sales Representatives. The posted position as an employee provides an opportunity for training and development until capable of being elevated to the independent contractor status where the income potential is much greater.
Qualifications:
A goal oriented, self-motivated individual who can blend drive with attention-to-detail and a consistent respect for customers and their needs. These qualifications are essential, as the primary job is absent of daily personal contact with supervision. Drive and determination are required to maximize sales over such an extensive area. Respect for customers is necessary in order to maintain proper relations. Due to the high value of the product being carried, there is also the necessity for honesty, integrity, "street smarts" and an ever-present vigilance with respect to security.
College degree is preferred and a high school education is required.
Experience with fine jewelry merchandise will be helpful but not necessary, but the ability to learn about it will be essential.
Telemarketing experience is helpful. The ability to interact in a positive fashion with different personalities, both in person and over the telephone, is essential.
Given the nature of our business, candidates must pass extensive security and credit checks plus drug testing.
