Finance & Operations Manager Position

Mission and Overview:
GAVA organizes and mobilizes community power to reduce barriers to health while increasing institutional capacity to respond to the people most impacted by historic inequities.

GAVA seeks to reduce the negative impacts of systemic health inequities in the three ways:
  • Increase access to physical activity and improved nutrition
  • Build community power
  • Foster permanency

Finance & Operations Manager Description

This position plays a key role in the organization’s funding strategy, long-term financial security, and organizational effectiveness and quality of labor. The Finance & Operations Manager will collaborate with the executive management team and Board Treasurer to execute and analyze organization finances, track organizational spending, and create and maintain efficient operating systems and procedures. This position is also responsible for drafting grant budget and financial reports in a timely manner.

Responsibilities
Finance Responsibilities
  • Operation of all Finance functions (A/P, A/R, Monthly Reporting, Payroll Entry, etc)
  • Manage tax and other government requirements for business operations
  • Develop annual organizational and program budgets and present to Board of Directors
  • Perform financial analyses to determine present and forecasted financial health of the company, and use financial modeling to forecast financial scenarios
  • Manage expenditure compliance with all relevant contracts and agreements
  • Implement and maintain internal financial controls
  • Manage a yearly financial audit for GAVA’s finances by a contracted CPA firm
  • Generate budgets and financial reports for all restricted funding opportunities
  • Identify and implement investment savings strategies to build GAVA’s financial stability
  • Develop and present monthly financial reports to GAVA Directors, and bi-monthly reports to GAVA’s Board of Directors

Operations Responsibilities
  • Maintain and improve the day-to-day productivity of the team
  • Manage HR & payroll contract with TriNet PEO Firm
  • Develop, implement, and review operational policies, systems (e.g. Salesforce) and procedures
  • Promote a company culture that encourages top performance and high morale
  • Work with GAVA Directors and Board of Directors to determine the operationalization of short- and long-term goals for GAVA
  • Identify and address problems and opportunities for GAVA

Qualifications
  • 3+ years experience in nonprofit financial management, accounting, and leading yearly audits
  • 2+ years experience in management, operations, and leadership
  • Strong knowledge of QuickBooks Desktop accounting software and GAAP nonprofit finance guidelines and finance procedures
  • Ability to build consensus and relationships among managers, partners, and employees
  • Demonstrated excellence in organizational and communication skills
  • Awareness of the culture of philanthropy in Austin and country-wide, especially related to public health and community organizing efforts
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse populations and help advocate for equitable health access
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish a plus

Qualities of a successful candidate:
  • Experience in nonprofit finance and operations
  • Strong strategic planner with strong problem solving skills
  • Ability to collaborate and foster teamwork
  • Demonstrate a positive attitude, show concern for people and community; demonstrate presence, self-confidence, common sense, and good listening ability
  • Interest in systems change and upstream public health interventions that address the root causes of health inequities
  • Be a “self-starter” and organized, and exhibit “follow through” on tasks and goals

Position Details
  • Full time position with health, dental, vision, and 401k benefits
  • Standard work week with some flexibility
  • May be required to work evenings or weekends during major campaigns and special events, with opportunity to flex hours
  • Salary commensurate with experience and starting at $60,000
