Liaison Officer At Conestoga College

Location: Doon, Ontario

Job Description

Support Staff Full-time Temporary New Initiatives and Opportunities Position (February 2019 to December 20, 2019) Position will only be filled pending government funding approval (Full-time support staff will be given first consideration)

Responsibilities:

We require a qualified professional to provide support coordinating the execution of pre-apprenticeship programs by marketing those programs to a diverse group of prospective students, engaging graduates, and providing liaison and recruitment services to employers. This position will include marketing outreach and engagement activities targeting students including unemployed or barriered community groups, parents, teachers, and guidance counselors to increase capacity in the skilled trades. The incumbent will also coordinate special projects as required.

  • Coordinates the execution of pre-apprenticeship programs and special projects from start-up to completion including marketing, promotion, and student assessment
  • Develops a marketing plan, prepares marketing and advertising materials including web and social media promotions, newsletters, flyers, and fact sheets for special projects targeting students and prospective students, employers, industry members, and community partners
  • Works in conjunction with other college departments for promotion and registration (Marketing, Design Services, Web Services, Records, Admission Services, etc.)
  • Develops and delivers presentations both on and off campus, participates in campus tours and events for potential students to meet short and long-term application targets
  • Conducts student assessments and oversees selection and acceptance process in collaboration with Co-ordinator and Faculty
  • Provides necessary documentation for candidate admission to government sponsoring agencies (e.g. Ontario Works, E.I., Second Career)
  • Liaises with community partners, industry representatives and school boards to promote programs; responds to inquiries from potential students and agencies
  • Supports review of program expenditures, co-ordinates program delivery in consultation with Program Manager
  • Identifies and responds to students in crisis, problem solves and directs to appropriate college supports and outside services (accessibility, counselling)
  • Prepares, facilitates, and evaluates career development activities, develops work placement opportunities with industry, on-site monitoring and evaluation
  • Develops materials and on-line delivery materials for career development activities and courses, regularly reviews content to ensure currency and validity for students
  • Facilitates Career Development activities and courses to pre-apprenticeship students including preparing, advising and evaluating students both individually and through classroom instruction and assignments
  • Establishes networking opportunities for students with industry (employer panels, tours)
  • Meets regularly with students to identify issues and ensure student success
  • Ensures all grades are entered and certificates issued for college and partners
  • Develops work placement opportunities by marketing to employers including employer research, on-site employer visits, regular communication, and networking with a variety of contacts including professional associations and groups
  • Conducts on-site monitoring visits and evaluation to solicit feedback from employers about student progress on the job and to monitor the students learning and performance
  • Problem-solves with employers, students when workplace conflicts and/or issues arise
  • Communicates regularly with government ministry (Ministry of Training, Colleges, and Universities - MTCU) regarding potential apprenticeship registrations and student progress
  • Develops a mentorship database and provides matching services for prospective students, college post-secondary students, and alumni
  • Collaborates with industry partners to provide work place exposure and placements, promote apprenticeship, assists employers registering apprentices with government agencies, and organizes orientation events
  • Completes documentation for reporting purposes for sponsoring agencies (MTCU) and college data collection purposes
  • Gathers statistics, labour market information, and assesses feedback to identify current and potential market needs and opportunities
  • Assists in the development of proposals to meet labour market needs
  • Obtains letters of recommendation and related materials to support proposals of delivery of trades and skilled trades training
  • Coordinates special events and tours for industry professionals, community agencies, SCWI and prospective students
  • Provides back-up support for Marketing and Liaison staff in School of Trades & Apprenticeship
  • Provides accurate information regarding program types, requirements, offerings, locations and entrances requirements
  • Responds to requests for presentations from various College departments, community partners, government funded agencies, employers and industry members, target groups and participates in relevant trade shows and career fairs
  • Assists with special events such as the annual Trades and Apprenticeship Student Awards ceremony including securing and distributing awards, arranging facilities, Master of Ceremonies, donors, presenters, recipients, food, and guest speaker(s)
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Three year diploma/degree in Business, Career Development and/or Education with preferred skills of advertising, sales, marketing, communications, human relations and computer literacy,
  • Three years of practical experience in an education or training environment to include demonstrated public speaking in marketing programs
  • In-depth knowledge/work history in the trades/apprenticeship, engineering and technology and the delivery of government sponsored programs in non-traditional careers is preferred
  • Experience in group facilitation and career development
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written English skills to communicate with a wide range of clients including students, community agencies, parents, funder, employers and college staff
  • Strong background in working with diverse group of potential students accessing non-traditional careers and/or education is preferred
  • Experience delivering government sponsored programs and working with employers an asset
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft computer applications (Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint)
  • Professionalism and exceptional customer service skills are required
  • Sophisticated problem-solving and evaluation skills
  • Ability to work independently to initiate action, set priorities and organize tasks to maintain work flow, and meet project deadlines
  • May require evening and weekend availability on occasion
  • Access to reliable transportation and ability to travel to multiple locations
