Shared Accounting Services Director, North America At Computershare

Location: Toronto, Ontario

Job Description

Scope of the Position

The North America Shared Accounting Services Director is a leadership position that has accountability and provides oversight and direction for the back-office transaction processing functions of Finance, including invoicing of customers, processing of customer receipts, collection of outstanding receivables and accounts payable. The North America Shared Accounting Services Director will ensure complete, accurate and timely processing of Finance transactions of clients of all US and Canadian operational businesses optimize working capital of the organization and provide stewardship over its assets. The role manages a team of approximately 50 staff located in Canada, the US and Hyderabad. The role would also contribute to continued process improvement, transformation and drive employee and business stakeholder improvement.

Major Responsibilities

Work with the global and other regional shared accounting services management to develop and maintain global vision, strategy and policies for Finance back-office functions.

Develop and execute a North American roadmap to transform Finance to globally consistent processes, procedures and use of technology. Assist in the optimization of processes at Computershare’s outsourced business partner to provide high quality homogeneous operations for all regional Finance centres.

Manage country and/or function mangers to perform the following Canadian and US functions, incorporating on-shore and outsourced offshored teams:
  • Deliver customer invoices on behalf of all operational business units.
  • Allocate cash receipts.
  • Collection of outstanding aged balances from clients.
  • Processing and payment of supplier invoices.
  • Other functions deemed within the scope of the regional Shared Accounting Services management which this role will be involved in developing.
Ensure complete, accurate and timely processing and protect Computershare assets. Work with function managers and operational business management to identify and resolve issues affecting staff, processes, and systems.

Monitor the outsourcing of in-scope processes with Computershare’s outsourced business partner, ensuring quality, timely and efficient delivery of services and excellent partner relationships.

Work with Finance and operational businesses to identify, schedule and execute projects that include integration of the frequent acquisitions that occur in the North American businesses, invoicing for new products and services, Finance system and process enhancements, modifications within Finance for changes to operational systems and processes.

Finance management tasks that include participation in the North American and Global Finance leadership teams, management of internal and external audit processes, coordination of managed functions with wider Finance processes, direct report and team management.

Periodic reporting within US and Group Finance and to operational businesses. Provide operational support to global business CEOs, global and regional Commercial (Finance) managers and other Finance teams.

Be a leader in change management, actively driving employee and business stakeholder development through communication and coaching. Managing teams both in the US and Canada and Hyderabad, India.

Other duties or tasks as assigned by management.

Skills

Understands the strategic role the various Finance functions plays within Finance and the wider businesses. Be able to assist in defining the global Finance vision and strategy and to determine regional Finance strategy and develop roadmaps that transform Finance functions to the determined vision.

In depth knowledge of best practices in people, process, technology and risk management of Finance functions and how to apply these to Finance in Computershare.

Senior Finance management experience including monitoring, guiding and mentoring of function managers, subject-matter-experts and both internal and outsourced staff. Manage staff across multiple countries and work with Finance management across all regions.

Strategize, sponsor and deliver complex projects. Work with function and project managers to prioritize projects, allocate resources, manage Finance and business stakeholders, identify and resolve issues and deliver change.

Problem-solve and manage conflict within Finance and between Finance and operational business managers when issues arise.

Lead on building positive relationships within the team, broader Finance function and key stakeholders in the businesses, ensuring that strategy and service meets business needs.

Education, Training, Certification(s)

Bachelor's degree from college or university and at least ten years related experience.

Accounting designation (CPA, CA, CGA, CMA) a benefit.

Experience

Required:

Experience managing Finance business processes, delivering high-quality processing in a large organization.

Previous experience managing Finance staff to at least senior manager level with ten years’ experience.

Hands-on experience operating Finance systems.

Excellent interpersonal communication skills providing the ability to establish rapport, persuade others and promote understanding and consensus. Excellent written communication skills.

Excellent change management skills.

Very good application of Microsoft Office tools particularly Word, PowerPoint and Project. Excellent Excel skills.
Experience managing systems and process change projects.


Preferred:

Previous experiencing in managing outsourced business processes.

LEAN Six Sigma or other process and systems analysis and improvement qualifications or experience.
