Planning Technician At City of Cambridge

Job Profile

We are looking for an experienced Planning Technician to join the Planning Services Division team, Community Development Department available immediately. Reporting to the Manager of Development Planning, the focus of this position will be to:

What you will be doing
  • Review business license, building permit and demolition permit applications for the purpose of confirming zoning compliance and granting zoning approval.
  • Review and processes Letters of Compliance by interpreting Zoning By-law, confirming Official Plan and Heritage designation status and Building Code compliance from Building Permit files.
  • Respond to planning-related inquiries at the counter and on the telephone and e-mail.
  • Process development applications including rezoning, official plan amendments, part lot control, site plan and condominium approvals for Planning and Development Committee, Council's approval and the Chief Planner's approval.
  • Present applications for public meetings and recommendations to Planning and Development Committee
  • Review applications for building permits to determine the amount of City, Regional and School Boards development charges payable prior to its issuance. Checks for complete information and interprets building drawings to determine the number of units and amount of non-residential floor space for the purposes of calculating the development charge.
  • Determine and advise on necessary course of action for land use applications; ie. severances, variances, re-zoning, etc.
Education
Two year College Diploma in Planning or Similar
Experience and Knowledge

1-2 years related Planning experience. Possession of a current Certified Planning Technician designation or eligible for Registered Professional Planner along with a valid Drivers’ License is required.

Valid G driver's license.
Worker Health and Safety Awareness Training certificate from the Ministry of Labour. (may be obtained post offer)
Your compensation

This position is within Grade 7 of the inside workers union Salary Schedule and has an annual salary range of $61,367 to $65,221. We offer a comprehensive benefit package and are an Ontario Municipal Employees Retirement System (OMERS) employer.

Hours of work

The current regular hours of work are in accordance with the collective agreement, however currently are 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 pm., Monday to Friday; some evening hours are required
