Works Inspector At City of Calgary

Location: Calgary, Alberta

As a Works Inspector, you will provide inspection and geotechnical services for a variety of municipal engineering projects on construction sites. Primary duties include:
  • Provide reports (verbal and written) to Project Engineers, Consultants, Contractors, and Supervisors.
  • Comment and advise on rectification of deficiencies; provide direction to improve testing results.
  • Provide comments to Contractors on the suitability of compaction equipment, compaction methods, and moisture contents for various soil types.
  • Attend project startup and progress meetings to coordinate services and resolve issues regarding compaction.
  • Maintain constant contact and liaise with clients during the course of project construction, to resolve issues, as required.
  • Ensure site safety and environmental standards are followed.


Working Conditions:
  • This position primarily works at construction sites, with exposure to various weather elements, dust, dirt, vehicle fumes, and heavy construction equipment. Regular driving to and from worksites is required.
  • This position also requires heavy lifting of up to 57 lbs.
Qualifications
  • A completed 2 year diploma in Civil Engineering Technology and at least 3 years of experience; OR
  • A degree in Civil Engineering, and at least 1 year of experience.
  • Working knowledge of municipal engineering and of soil aggregates properties and their classifications.
  • Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint).
  • A valid Class 5 Driver's Licence (or provincial equivalent) with no more than 6 demerit points.
  • A Certified Technologist Designation will be considered an asset.
  • Demonstrated experience in completing concise reports and documenting project progression.
  • You demonstrate attention to detail, and ability to: multitask and take initiative; relay technical information in a clear manner; convey issues accurately and investigate complaints thoroughly.
Pre-employment Requirements
  • Ability to obtain a City of Calgary operator's permit.
  • Successful applicants must provide proof of qualifications.
Pre-employment Drug Test: An offer of employment for this position will be conditional on an applicant passing a pre-employment drug test. This test assesses for use of drugs including cannabis. Failure to pass a pre-employment drug test may prevent an applicant from being hired into any safety sensitive position for a period of up to twelve months.

Compensation: Pay Grade 9 $35.43 - 47.40 per hour (2017 rates)
Days of Work: This position works a 5 day
work week with one day off in a 3 week cycle.

Hours of work:Non- Standard 40 hour work week
