Technical Coordinator At City of Calgary

Location: Calgary, Alberta

The Technical Coordinator establishes and maintains technical standards and guidelines, approves products for the design and construction of water, wastewater and drainage infrastructure and grant industry permissions on related activities. Primary duties include:

  • Develop, implement and maintain technical specifications, guidelines, and manuals, including Standard Specifications for Construction and those required for Low Impact Development applications.

  • Address and resolve technical and procedural issues arising from conflicting interpretation of contract documents and referenced technical standards and guidelines.

  • Coordinate evaluation and suitability assessment of materials, products and installation methods that are to be approved for use in The City's water, wastewater and drainage infrastructure.

  • Engage with representatives of the development industry to identify and address issues of mutual concern.

  • Identify opportunities for product or process improvements and initiate investigation, approval and implementation.

  • Compile and analyze data. Write technical reports, letters and procedures.

  • Prepare and issue agreements and addenda to grant industry permissions on associated works.


Qualifications
  • A 2 year technical diploma in Civil Engineering or related field with a minimum of 5 years experience in the design, construction and/or inspection of water, wastewater and storm water systems.
  • Must possess or be eligible for a Certified Engineering Technologist (CET) designation with the Association of Science and Engineering Technology Professionals of Alberta (ASET).
  • Strong technical knowledge of construction materials, methods and standards (Canadian Standards Association, American Water Works Association, and American Society for Testing and Materials) related to underground construction and materials evaluation.
  • Proficient technical writing skills for specifications and reports.
  • Demonstrated networking and negotiating skills, good judgment, and the ability to effectively interpret, evaluate, and make decisions on exceptions to established standards and practices.

Compensation: Pay Grade 12 $41.44 - 55.40 per hour
Days of Work: This position works a 5 day
work week with one day off in a 3 week cycle.
Hours of work: Non Standard 40 hour work week
