Quality Control Technologist, Burnaby, BC Canada At Ballard

Location: Burnaby, British Columbia

Job Description

Ballard’s Quality Team has a position available for a Quality Control Technologist in our Burnaby facility. The successful candidate will primarily be responsible for carrying out First Article Inspections and assist with the development of appropriate incoming inspection control plans and effective inspection techniques.


Responsibilities:

  • Ensures the consistent application of inspections and tests in Incoming Quality Control (IQC)
  • Carry out First Article Inspections, maintain records and follow up with cross-functional team
  • Reviews and analyzes the results of the inspection tests and helps to determine the outcome of products that are not accepted
  • Participates in the development and the initiation of the techniques for inspection, testing and evaluation of incoming materials. Evaluates techniques and recommends changes
  • Applies statistical techniques to analyze supplier performance and report on various Supplier Quality Metrics under the guidance of Supplier Quality Engineers
  • Prepares programs and carries out inspections on Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) and other metrology equipment


Requirements:

  • A strong technical background is required (e.g.: undergraduate degree in science, engineering or technology)
  • Two or more years of experience in a quality inspector role, preferably with mechanical and electronic parts and assemblies.
  • Experience with programming and operating a Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM)
  • Knowledge of PEM fuel cells is beneficial but not required.
  • General quality background knowledge is required: basic understanding of measurement techniques, measurement systems analysis, inspection sampling plans, quality tools, 8D problem solving and root cause analysis.
  • Knowledge of APQP concepts including PPAP, DFMEA and PFMEA are preferred.
  • Understanding of statistics as they apply to quality.
  • Basic understanding of supply chain and operations.
  • Extremely good written and oral communication skills. Clarity is required in all communications
  • Must be able to assist cross-functional reviews and confidently follow up and communicate urgencies to team members
  • Must be able to explain complex concepts to all levels of personnel from shop floor to senior managers.
  • Must be tenacious and not give up easily – rigorous follow up is frequently required.
  • Must be a co-operative team player, yet able to work independently when required.
  • Strong record keeping and organizational skills.
  • Must be able to manage multiple issues simultaneously.
  • Must act with a sense of urgency.
