Engineer/Scientist, Burnaby, BC Canada At Ballard

Location: Burnaby, British Columbia

Job Description

Ballard has two openings for a permanent, full time position as an entry-level member of the Failure Analysis Team.


Responsibilities:

  • Perform failure analysis investigations
  • Use systematic problem solving focused on hypothesis testing
  • Perform materials testing and characterization
  • Perform chemical analyses
  • Prepare reports, presentation and data summaries
  • Communicate results and understanding to project teams and customers
  • Work independently with lab instrumentation
  • Install, commission and learn operation
  • Troubleshoot, calibrate and document procedures
  • Train others


Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering or Materials Engineering
  • Strong background in chemistry (organic, polymer, analytical preferred)
  • Knowledge of fuel cell principles and electrochemistry
  • Experience in the use of analytical techniques such as TGA, NMR, SEM-EDS, UV-Vis, FTIR or electrochemical testing
  • Familiarity with mechanical and thermal materials testing techniques such a as tensile testing, DMA, and DSC
  • Proficient working with Microsoft Office Programs and VBA programming skills would be an asset
  • Comfortable working in a laboratory environment with demonstrated hands on experience
  • Comfortable learning and troubleshooting lab equipment
  • Strong planning and time management skills
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills; proficiency in technical report writing
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team
  • Detail-oriented and methodical in test execution, analysis and interpretation
