We are seeking an experienced Staff Consultant to join our Public Sector Consulting team in Chicago, IL.


As a Consultant, you will work with a select group of professionals aligned in an entrepreneurial environment, to assist clients with solutions to help them meet their strategy, resource optimization, and financial management needs. In addition you will partner with our clients to:

  • Assist public sector entities of all types to operate efficiently.
  • Ensure alignment of resources with key strategic goals and priority service areas.
  • Outline options to enhance revenue sources and tax base.
  • Facilitate effective partnerships and alternate service delivery approaches.
  • Develop tactical approaches to implement changes in strategy, service delivery and/or policy.
  • Position entities to enhance fiscal position, service responsiveness, and alignment of operations with strategic priorities.

Responsibilities

  • Serve on client projects.
  • Assist or manage client relationships.
  • Interview clients to better understand processes and to recommend improvements.
  • Perform financial, staffing, economic impact, and other projects in support of recommendations regarding the effective use of public resources.
  • Review client organizational structures and processes for efficiencies.
  • Assist clients with strategic resource alignment through organizational and staffing studies, governance evaluation, and risk assessments.
  • Provide productivity enhancements through process re-engineering, internal controls review and performance measurement.
  • Review client processes and needs involved with use of information technology for potential improvements.
  • Investigate and analyze various options to enhance regional approaches to operations such as shared services and consolidation opportunities.
  • Develop solutions for tracking, reporting and monitoring resources, expenditures and revenues.
  • Conduct program evaluation and functional analyses in support of strategic, policy and resource recommendations.Conduct comparative benchmarking and research on industry best practices and incorporate into recommendations.
  • Effectively present conclusions and recommendations using visuals and written content.
  • Develop articles, sales proposals and presentations for new business development and client purposes.
  • Present findings to clients and Baker Tilly team members.Research issues and prepare whitepapers on current industry trends and issues.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required, MPA or MBA highly desired.
  • One (1) to Two (2) years of consulting experience preferred.
  • Specific experience with financial modeling.
  • Advanced proficiency using spreadsheets, flowcharting software and other automated tools to analyze issues and present recommendations.
  • Ability to author reports and write technical issues in an understandable approach for a non-technical audience.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to develop public presentations highlighting recommendations and advisory services through succinct, compelling and understandable formats.
  • Ability to provide exceptional client service, research and resolve client management issues, demonstrate commitment to continuous learning in order to stay current regarding strategies and regulations, display appropriate ethical knowledge and commitment, and exhibit a sense of urgency and commitment to quality and the timely completion of duties.
  • Ability to travel up to 50% for client engagements.
