With a team, the employee will develop cutting edge (acoustic) downhole tools and supporting equipment expected to make a significant impact in well construction. Will be responsible for delivering mechanical designs/analyses and being part of a team that takes designs from concept to commercial product.
Work in a healthy and safe manner in accordance with policies and procedures per health & safety manual. Must report any unsafe practices or conditions observed.
Developing concept and detailed designs of acoustic downhole and surface equipment, including 3D modeling, strength analysis, material selection, drafting and report/procedure writing.
Mathematical modeling of mechanical systems and calculation sheet authoring & programming.
Providing finite element analysis (FEA) of new and existing designs. (CFD a possibility if needs arise).
Development, execution and analysis of mechanical test programs including safety considerations.
Supporting procurement and inspection of mechanical components as needed.
Providing mechanical support to repair & maintenance and manufacturing activities of prototype and existing products, including assembly troubleshooting, design cost reduction and remediation.
Other duties as deemed necessary by immediate supervisor.
BSc. (or higher) Canadian Mechanical Engineering degree or equivalent
Professional Engineer (P.Eng) status, registered with A.P.E.G.A.
5+ years of design and related industry experience
English language competency
Well-developed skills in mechanical design, 3d CAD/drafting (Solidworks), FEA (Ansys Workbench), calculation software (Excel, …), machining processes
Analytical skills including mathematical modeling of mechanical systems
Basic knowledge/skills in QC techniques and associated inspection tools
Position requires mainly office work during daytime hours with occasional overtime.
At times may be required to support shop activities with supervision/instruction of mechanical QC, assembly, repair, troubleshooting.
Position may require occasional work in shop and field locations, where minor lifting and tool handling may be needed and standard PPE would be required (ie eye glasses, steel toed boots, hard hat, gloves, etc).
Collaborative product development skills/experience
Electro-mechanical & other downhole tool design experience
High pressure/temperature downhole tool design experience
Non-linear structural finite element analysis skills/experience (using Ansys Workbench)
Fatigue and/or creep analysis knowledge/experience
Thread design and/or selection knowledge/experience
Analytical thick-walled tube analysis knowledge/experience
Multi-variable design evaluation, optimization & concept selection skills/experience
Advanced 3d modeling skills/experience (ie parametric modeling considering design intent & model/drawing editability/reusability, configurations, …)
