Online Services Engineer (C++, PC/Console Game Client) At 2K Games

Location: Novato, California

Job Description

Who We Are:

2K publishes some of the most popular video game franchises on the planet including Mafia, Borderlands, BioShock, NBA 2K, WWE 2K, Evolve, XCOM, and Sid Meier’s Civilization. The Core Technology group is responsible for identifying common problems across the company and building solutions to those problems. What We Need:

We are looking for an experienced and highly effective Software Engineer to join our online products team. Our team builds in-game online functionality such as Player Stats, Challenges/Achievements, Leaderboards, and more. In this role you’ll help expand the functionality of our C++ SDK and work with game teams to develop compelling online features for use in existing and new games. Our platform keeps maturing, and will benefit from a strong arm who is proficient building sharable components for multiple platforms (including next generation consoles), collaborating with engineers and partner developers to integrate them and applying best practices to deliver a performant full-featured SDK.


What You Will Do:

  • Participate in and embrace our engineering culture and values
  • Own our client-oriented framework libraries and help game developers with code integration (modifying game code if needed) across many platforms (PC/XBOX/PlayStation/Nintendo/iOS and more).
  • Demonstrate best practices for building sharable software components
  • Participate in the architectural decisions to build scalable, distributed, fault-tolerant systems working in C++, C# and other languages.
  • Actively participate in each SDK release (including new and existing products)
  • Work with external resources (outsourcing) to fulfill larger initiatives
  • Deliver continuous improvement in the performance and reliability of your shared components
  • Support and maintain the systems we build; establish and maintain the knowledge to use them and understand how they work end to end
  • Produce excellent, thorough documentation for internal and external teams
  • Work with limited supervision under tight time constraints and respond to rapidly evolving requirements
  • Solve production issues and be available for emergencies

  • Minimum 5 years professional experience programming with C++ for console games with at least 2 major titles shipped (PC/XB1/PS4)
  • Solid grasp of object-oriented principles, patterns, and applications
  • Experience working with multi-threaded code bases
  • Experience working with commercial game engines.
  • Familiarity with online game platforms, especially Xbox Live, PlayStation Network, and Steam
  • B.S. degree (or higher) in Computer Science, or equivalent
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Proficient using scripting languages, specifically for automation (Python preferred)
  • Proficient using Source Control tools (Perforce and Git preferred)
  • Experience working with iOS and Android is a plus
